Danube Region stands with Ukraine

The TRIO-Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region strongly condemns the unprovoked, illicit and unjust military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. The military acts violate international law and agreements, undermining European and global security and stability. Above all, these actions cause loss of life and suffering of the people of Ukraine.

The EUSDR stands for freedom, peace and cooperation to improve the life of the people in the Danube Region. Ukraine is a sovereign state and an equal partner amongst the 14 EUSDR member states along the Danube, from the Black Forest to the Black Sea.

The TRIO-Presidency of the EUSDR expresses its solidarity with the people of Ukraine and calls to immediately cease the hostilities and to seek solutions by diplomacy. Casualties and destruction of regions must stop immediately.

The EUSDR stands by the people, friends and partners in Ukraine.

Even though the current state-of-affairs look extremely bleak we firmly believe in the great French scientist, Louis Pasteur’s words: “(…) science and peace will triumph over ignorance and war, that nations will eventually unite not to destroy but to edify, and that the future will belong to those who have done the most for the sake of suffering humanity.”
